Why PeopleData ?

Personal Data is a new kind of assets, which fueled the whole data economy.  Unfortunately, people are under a situation of losing control of their data, which BigTech corporations monopolize these precious resources for a long time.

PeopleData will create a new paradigm for the exploitation and utilization of personal data.

The core principles of the PeopleData initiative are:

  • Data Sovereignty of the People.  People decides whether, for whom, and how his personal data can be used.

  • Good for the People.  The high priority ethical use of personal data must to benefit the People.

  • Equal benefit by the People. Create equal access to data exploitation and utilization benefits for everyone.

Trilemma

The exploitation and utilization of personal data needs to constantly take into account openness, privacy and security. But the "impossible trinity" formed by these three factors presents new challenges. Due to differences in law, culture, politics and society in different countries and regions, there are also great diversity in the focus and concerns on these factors.  PeopleData proposed that the optimal solution should be settlement based on context in the "impossible trinity".

Trustworthy

Personal data is produced from a wide range of devices, applications, scenarios and entities. The exploitation and utilization of personal data inevitably requires the collection, aggregation and fusion of data from different data sources. Data consumers need trusted data; Data providers must also be able to continuously provide trusted data. This requires multiple layers of trusted architecture across devices, applications, scenarios, and entities. The solution proposed by PeopleData is to use a layered and distributed architecture to achieve trustworthiness.

Building Block

PeopleData will provide open source tools/protocols for the whole entire ecosystem, and provide support for institutions, organizations and individuals to develop their application. There are three initial tools/protocols introduced as the building blocks at the starting point.

"Privacy by design and default was not a chimaera but a real goal to strive for. We are looking for a new paradigm that could free us from surveillance and manipulation and respect our rights to pursue human flouring. PeopleData values privacy, personal data self-control and Security. It is just the kind of paradigm we can count on. "

"A paradigm shift in the exploitation and utilization of personal data is underway. I think that a core principle followed by the new paradigm is: The exploitation and utilization of personal data should always take into account openness, privacy and security, and in the trilemma formed between the three sectors, seek optimal solution for different contexts."

"The current development of data exchanges is still in its infancy, without a large number of data transactions or market pricing models, but the pricing of data assets will eventually emerge, and data trading will flourish and energize the digital economy. The development of data exchanges, the application of artificial intelligence methods, and the topics of data privacy and data validation are all key infrastructures for the future trading of data assets. "In the era of digital economy, data becomes a new factor of production, and its development prospects are unlimited. However, due to the characteristics of easy to clone, easy to tamper with, difficult to confirm rights and privacy of the data itself, it still faces huge challenges to upgrade into assets. Therefore, we need to build a new paradigm and subversive infrastructure to lay the foundation for creating a new digital ecosystem that is credible, open and self-sovereign."

By using personal data, more personalized products and services can be created and the user experience smoother. For example, using personal health data to develop health software can provide users with personalized health guidance.
Using personal data can help people make better decisions. For example, using personal financial data to develop financial software can help users understand their financial situation and help them make more informed investment decisions.

“The widespread application of the Internet has made our living space much broader than ever. However, it also brings about the surveillance capitalism, where the Internet giants compete to rob us of our attention via personal information mining, which makes it an illusion to protect our personal information and privacy. To tackle these issues, we argue that the data processing and utilization have to be transparent and trackable, prioritizing the right to information self-determination and privacy preserving.”
